Timber Fence Panels
Lapped timber fence panels are the most common fencing type across Ipswich suburbs. They need a penetrating preservative stain rather than a surface film paint.
We apply the stain with a brush to work it into the panel laps and gaps. Brush application takes longer but gives full coverage.
Close-Board Fencing
Close-board fencing with pales fixed to arris rails needs the same treatment as panel fencing but takes longer. Each pale is a separate piece and must be covered individually.
For properties with shared boundaries in Kesgrave or Stoke Park, we confirm access and check the treatment will not affect the adjacent garden.
Garden Gates
Garden gates see more movement and handling than fence panels. They need a slightly harder finish than the surrounding fence.
Gate posts get the same treatment as fence panels, including mould treatment on the post base where soil contact occurs.
Fence Staining
Traditional fence brown has given way to a much wider colour range. Slate grey, charcoal, forest green, and natural oak tones complement modern landscaping across Martlesham Heath and Westerfield.
For deck painting alongside the fence, we can schedule both in one visit.
Protective Coatings
Fence panels in heavy shade from mature trees need a product with higher mould resistance than a standard garden stain. We advise on the right product based on light levels and exposure of the specific fence run.

Here’s How It Works
1. Assessment
We inspect the fence for panel condition, post integrity, and biological growth. Panels with rot or structural damage are flagged before work starts.
2. Preparation
Debris is brushed out from panel laps and gaps. Algae-covered sections are treated and rinsed. The fence is allowed to dry before treatment is applied.
3. Preservative Base Coat
Where panels are in poor condition or untreated for several years, a wood preservative is applied before the topcoat stain.
4. Stain Application
The stain is applied by brush along the grain of each board. Panel laps and internal corners are worked with a smaller brush. Two coats are standard.
5. Inspection
We check for missed sections and uneven coverage across the full fence run before leaving.

Fence Painting Costs in Ipswich
Prices below are estimates only. Every fence is different. Call 01473 974699 for a precise quote.
Three things drive the price: fence length, preparation required, and panel type.

Timber Panel Fence
Bramford semi-detached, approx 20 metres, clean, preserve, and two coats: £450 to £700.
Garden Gate and Posts
Included with fence scope or as standalone: £120 to £220 per gate including frame and posts.
Extended Fence Run
Westerfield detached, approx 40 metres perimeter, depending on panel condition: £850 to £1,400.
What Affects Pricing
Fence length means more time and material. Fences with algae and splitting panels need more preparation. Close-board fencing takes longer per metre than lapped panels.
